This past few weeks saw the progress of an exciting competition hosted by Peek& Cloppenburg and patroned by Stella McCartney: Designer for Tomorrow.
There were a few up-and-coming designers there, the best young talented available in Britain. Amongst them was the seriously talented Ioana Ciolacu, who you’ve seen featured on here three times already, and the only one for whom I rooted. Obviously I like betting on winning horses. A flare for greatness. Quite a nose (as my profile will assure you). But enough about me…
Expectantly, yet still really fun to watch, she won last night, after they all presented their capsule collections. Stella McCartney herself was heard gasping and saying stuff like ‘OMG, I’d eat meat to have that dress’ but such rumors were unconfirmed by the designer’s PR company. Hanneli Mustaparta, one of the jury-board members swore off to change her staple Acne outfits for those of Ioana’s. True story.
Oh, the award, you ask? Well, aside from getting some majorly coveted international media attention, the personal applause of Stella McCartney herself and those of about 700 people in the audience, fame at home (aka RO) Ioana will be on the official London Fashion Week calendar the upcoming season. Holy f*&$, yeah, I know.
Here is to hard working, ass-kicking Romanians all over the world and kudos to great design, no matter where it comes from!
Don’t forget to pass by Ioana’s studio in Bucharest and support her talent by buying her designs, because nothing says ‘i like your work’ to a designer, than someone wearing it proudly. Book an appointment by messaging her FB page.
